1ST CONVOCATION CEREMONY: ADMIRALTY UNIVERSITY GRADUATES 24 FIRST CLASS

In an eventful and colourful maiden convocation ceremony of the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Ibusa/Ogwash-Uku express way in Delta State, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Omojo Omaji disclosed that the five years old University graduated 153 students out of which 24 graduands made 1st Class.

The Convocation and Founders Day ceremony which started with graduands procession and followed by academic procession, was held at the school multi-purpose Hall on Thursday 24th, and Friday 25th November, 2022.

The Vice Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, Chancellor, and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo said the graduands have been trained to solve problems in society.

According to Prof. Omaji “amongst the graduands, 24 graduated with First class, 76 made Second Class (Upper Division), 52 had Second Class (Lower Division), while only one left with a Third Class”.

He said Mr. Ape Terhemba Moses of Cyber Security Department, who scooped 5 prize awards, was the best graduating student for the 2021/2022 Academic Session.

Earlier in his address, the Chief of Naval Staff and Chancellor of ADUN, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, said the purpose of setting ADUN by the Nigeria Navy was to produce graduates who irrespective of their courses of studies would think and function creatively to achieve economic reliance.

The Chancellor also stated that the Navy also wanted to produce graduates who were in tune with problem solving attitude and the spirit of service to humanity, and that outstanding graduates will be considered for employment by the Nigerian Navy if they meet the terms and conditions of service.

The Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who was represented by Chief Patrick Ukah, the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), relayed the State Government’s support to the growth of the school in the states.

The convocation lecturer, Mr. Tony Elumelu who spoke on leadership, maintained that passion and hard-work are key to success in businesses.

In his appreciation speech for the recognition of his contributions towards the establishment of the University, Rear Admiral C. O. Ezeoba (Rtd), a former Chief of Naval Staff, said words were not enough to appreciate the helps and roles played by the Ogbuzo of Ibusa, HRM Prof. Luke Nwoboshi.

Rear Admiral C. O. Ezeoba (Rtd) receiving his recognition award from ADUN said “apart from his contributions towards the actualization and establishment of the Admiralty University of Nigeria in Ibusa – Ogwashi-Uku Express Way, HRM Prof. Luke Nwoboshi donated his personal lands on pro-bono to the Nigeria Navy that’s now part of the land the University is occupying today.

Other highlights of the event were projects commissioning, tree planting, recognition of those that contributed to the reality and successes of the University so far and awards of honorary Degrees on some notable Nigerians.

Also in attendance were the Pro Chancellor Prof. Salihu Mustafa, Service Chiefs and representatives of the Nigeria Military, retired military personnel including Rear Admiral C. O. Ezeoba (Rtd), HRM Prof Luke Nwoboshi, The Ogbuzo of Ibusa, the monarch of the host community, Attah of Igala Land, HRM Alaji Mathew Opaluwa Oguche among other top dignitaries that graced the occasion.
