Four teams of four batches from the National Universities Commission visited the Admiralty University of Nigeria from 5 – 16th December 2021 for the initial accreditation of the following twelve academic programmes;
B.Sc. tourism Studies,
B.Sc. International Relations, B.Sc. Forensic Science,
B.Sc.Cybersecurity, B.Sc. Economics
B.Sc. Software Engineering, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Biology.B.Sc. Accounting,
B.Sc. Business Administration,
B.Sc. History & International Studies and B.Sc. English Language.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Omojo Omaji tagged the exercise Vision 12:12:21 that seeks to achieve a 100% success of accreditation of the 12 courses by the National University Commission Panel.
The University Management organized a refreshing dinner in honour of the panels in the spirit of hospitality and warm reception on arrival.
The Chairman of ADUN Governing Council, Prof. Salihu Mustapha; Registrar, Cmdr Isaac Mankilik (Rtd), PhD; University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) Gladys Onyia; Bursar, Cdr Mutiu Oloyede; Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Prof. Leonard Shilgba; Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof. Joseph Dioha; and Dean, Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, Prof. Robert Moruku, were in attendance at the dinner to welcome all the panels on behalf of management.
On arrival at the Admiralty University of Nigeria Campus, each panel paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Paul Omojo Omaji, was delighted to welcome all the teams on behalf of the University community.
He thanked them for accepting to be a part of the historic accreditation process that would further the course of excellence for ADUN, which had started from ground zero barely three years ago.
The Vice-Chancellor led all the teams to the Conference Room for a brief power-packed PowerPoint presentation on the state of the University from inception till date.
He highlighted the vision, mission, and motto of the University, adding that ADUN is a Global University Educating Luminary Leaders. Prof. Omaji expressed the yearnings of ADUN to be extraordinary and to surpass the ordinary standards of a conventional university using cutting-edge technologies to impact on leaders who are dedicated to service in the tradition of the Nigerian Navy.
Responding to the Vice-Chancellor’s presentation on behalf of the NUC Teams, the Chairman of the Cyber Security Panel Prof. Adeshina S. Sodiya said that the Teams were highly delighted to be part of the history of the University. “As a committee on a national assignment delegated by the National Universities Commission, we are not here to bring the University down,” Prof. Sodiya noted, adding that they came to contribute their quota to the development of the institution and the nation at large. Prof. Sodiya was ecstatic to put it on record that as President of the Nigerian Computer Society and a Professor of Cybersecurity, “I am happy that this infant University is starting a course in Forensic Science; I have not seen it anywhere in the country; it is a modern programme that is innovative; this shows that the Admiralty University of Nigeria is planning for the future.” Prof. Sodiya expressed appreciation to the University for the warm reception accorded the teams, especially by being treated to a cocktail on arrival the previous day.
The panels carried out the accreditation exercise by a visit to the university library, the departments, classrooms, laboratories, multipurpose hall, hostels, toilets and a walk around the serene environment for an on-the-spot assessment to aid their peer review findings.
At the end of the exercise, each of the teams held an exit debriefing at the conference room with the Vice-chancellor and presented their report and findings to the Vice-Chancellor for his signature.
The outcome of the exercise will be made known by the National University Commission.
