The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) proudly hosted its third convocation ceremony on Friday, November 24th, 2024. Held at the prestigious Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba Multipurpose Hall, the ceremony marked a momentous occasion, not just for the graduating class, but for the entire University community.
The ceremony was a testament to the University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence. Seven exceptional students graduated with First Class Honours, a true mark of distinction. This achievement speaks volumes about the quality of education offered at ADUN and the dedication of its faculty.
The event drew a distinguished crowd, reflecting the growing stature of ADUN within the Nigerian academic landscape. Esteemed government officials, high-ranking officers of the Nigerian Military, Royal Fathers from the host community, leaders from neighboring institutions, and esteemed friends of the University all came together to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Dili Ofuokwu, delivered a compelling address outlining ADUN’s vision for the future. He announced the highly anticipated launch of postgraduate studies in the 2025/2026 academic session. This exciting development will offer students the opportunity to pursue PGD, M.Sc./MPhil, and Ph.D. qualifications, further solidifying ADUN’s position as a center of academic excellence. Professor Ofuokwu also highlighted the recent visit by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for resource inspection. The positive evaluation of programs such as Nautical Sciences, Engineering disciplines, Naval Architecture, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Petroleum Engineering paves the way for program approvals, further expanding ADUN’s academic offerings.
Professor Ofuokwu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for their invaluable support. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of the Delta State government, particularly the construction of a 48-room hostel, which will enhance the student experience at ADUN. He extended a warm invitation to all stakeholders to join hands with the university in its journey of continuous growth and development.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Professor Rim-Rukeh Akpofure, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to investing in education. He lauded the remarkable strides ADUN has made in such a short time, highlighting the university’s dedication to nurturing future global leaders.
The Delta State government echoed this sentiment. His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, Executive Governor of Delta State, represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, congratulated the graduating class on their well-deserved achievements. Professor Tonukari commended the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and administration. He emphasized the state government’s unwavering support for ADUN, recognizing its crucial role in human capital development for the state and beyond.
The overall best graduating with 4.80 CGPA, Miss Onwuliri Somtochukwu Onumdinachi, delivered a heartfelt speech expressing her gratitude to the University staff. She spoke of the academic and moral support she received throughout her studies, highlighting the positive and nurturing environment fostered by ADUN. She exhorted her fellow graduates to step out into the world with confidence and apply the knowledge and values they acquired during their time at the university.
The event was a joyous celebration filled with the presentation of academic distinction prizes, awards of honor, and a captivating military parade. The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of distinguished guests, including Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba (Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council), Professor Emeritus Abubakar Sambo (Convocation Lecturer), Rear Admiral JU Okeke (representing the Chief of Defence Staff), Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu (representing the Chief of Naval Staff), Principal Officers of the University, Deans and Directors, and many other esteemed guests.
The third convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Admiralty University of Nigeria. With its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, the launch of postgraduate programs, and a strong foundation of collaboration, ADUN is poised to continue its journey as a leading institution for nurturing the next generation of luminary leaders and future academics.
